My memories take me back to my very first adventure and project as an aspiring filmmaker, age 23. Passionate and independent, I bought a video-camera and moved to Cambodia on a mission to capture the lives and stories of disadvantaged, abused and abandoned street children forced into labour on toxic rubbish dumps. I spent 4 years there making films and helped to establish, with my mum, a registered UK charity, Cambodia's Children (www.cambodiaschildren.org), which has been providing support for over one-hundred former street children in Phnom Penh since 2004. I wanted to share with you a photo essay about these children and the very first film I ever made!
